Configuration archives are simply portions of text that are stored in the database with a time stamp, type, and a checksum. Each host can have 1 or more archives for a specific type. There is currently not a way to add configuration archives via the GUI. This is purely done via external processes like cisco_archive or via dcm.pl
The web interface allows you to view the contents of configurations as well as do “diff” style comparisons between configurations. You can also delete or save the configuration entries.
The first step is to navigate to a host that has configuration archives. When you are displaying a host with configuration archives, and you have the proper privileges, you will see the configuration archive workspace plugin:
This plugin will show you a total count of archives for this host in the title bar. It will also show you a listing of each type of configuration archive in the database as well as a count of that type. To view the actual information, simply click the row that refers to the type you are interested in. You should now see a screen that looks similar to this:
You will be filtered down to just the type of archives that you had selected from the host display screen. The list will be sorted by date with the newest archive listed first.
In the likely situation that you will want to compare two configurations to see what their differences are then that can be done by selecting two entries to compare.
You should now be presented with a screen that includes a comparison of the differences between the selected entries. The lines are color coded for quick reference. Also their is a header showing details of the selected entries. Here is an example:
At the right of each entry in the list are several options:
