Stop using that Spreadsheet!

OpenNetAdmin provides a database managed inventory of your IP network. Each host can be tracked via a centralized AJAX enabled web interface that can help reduce tracking errors. We hope to provide a useful Network Management application for managing your IP subnets and hosts. Stop using spreadsheets to manage your network!

In the future we plan to provide some of our backend tools that can help to manage your environment using the data stored in the ONA database. Specifically we will soon offer, for a small fee, our ISC DHCP based build scripts and DNS configuration scripts. These can be used to manage those services from the data you enter into the ONA system. You can see an example of their output on our demo site when viewing a host that has DNS or DHCP services associated with it.

New version v08.07.23

Ok, its finally here! The latest version is out with several new features that I’m sure many will like. Go to the download page to get it!

  • PTR zone changes -- I’ve adjusted now PTR domains are stored and tracked in the system. This requires that all PTR records be part of a valid PTR domain in the system. To ensure that these domains exist, if you add a new subnet that is in an IP range that is not covered by an existing PTR domain, you will be prompted to create one at that time. This might be a bit confusing at first, but it is necessary.
  • Firefox 3.0 fixes -- There were some rendering issues with the “task bar” and the canvas pie chart.
  • Locations -- Now you can track basic information about the location of a device.
  • Custom Attributes -- The ability to add user defined bits of information. (first draft of this one)
  • Example .htaccess file for restricting the dcm.pl tool
  • Subnet display page now uses workspace plugins while rendering.
  • Many bug fixes..

Have a go at it, don’t forget to run the upgrade php script if you are upgrading, and please post some comments/feedback etc in the forum!

New Forum

Ok, so my last news item about an update coming soon did not take into account that apparently summer time is a much more busy time in my life. I am still making progress however and have been making some deep level updates that are taking longer than I had expected. There are some new developments with PTR records I had to deal with.

The good news is that I at least now have a forum set up. I hope that you will find it useful to ask questions and more importantly, leave your thoughts on how things are working out. The more comments and suggestions I get the better. This is a fairly new project and the more input from the public I can get, the better!.

So, drop us a comment in the forum and help get it going! Thanks!
